Nick Kemp - Public Speaking Expert

Developing Public Speaking Excellence

One of the most useful skills a person can acquire is to be able to wow an audience. Most of us will at sometime seek to do this, either in business or at social events and yet public speaking remains the number one phobia on the planet!

"According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy."

Jerry Seinfeld

Many clients I see privately to cure public speaking anxiety, later return to me to learn how to become excellent presenters. The ability to wow an audience is often hugely satisfying and can in many instances be financially rewarding.
Much has been written about developing this skill and unfortunately there are endless stereotypical pieces of advice that although are well meaning, fail to transfer into a live situation in a useful way. In a recent BBC interview I was invited to discuss the power of voice in communication and to comment on the suggestion that "communication is 55% visual, 38% auditory and 7% content" This is of course a massive generalisation and in any communication both the communicator and the audience are using all their senses to process information and each person will do so in their own way.

The best way to sound like you know what you're talking about is to know what you're talking about.
